Hamartiology (Greek - hamartia, "missing the mark") is the study of the doctrine of sin. It encompasses topics such as the fall, degrees of sin, Original sin, and human accountability for sin. It is interested in such questions as: (1) the nature, (2) extent, (3) pollution, (4) guilt of sin, and (5) did God "ordain" sin, while not being its author, etc.
